Audit Services
Not all audits are done by the IRS and not all audits are an ordeal. Our auditing professionals work with a number of non-profit organizations who require audits either because their Boards of Directors direct them to, or because they're legally compelled to because they've expended $500,000 or more in federal funds. Audits help maintain oversight and ensure accountability. But, beyond the checks and balances, audit reports may include management letter comments that can be viewed as "helpful hints" to improve operations, efficiency, and profitability.
The non-profit sectors we serve include:
- Community service agencies
- Social service agencies
- Arts & entertainment organizations
- Trade associations
In addition to non-profit our firm also conducts several inventory audits each year for businesses that carry a significant amount of inventory from one fiscal year to the next, largely contributing to the total value of their assets.
IRS Audits
If you receive a notice that you are being audited by the IRS your first step should be to call your accountant.
A Certified Public Accountant will assist you though the process and, when necessary, serve as a liason between you and the IRS. There are occasions when an IRS agent will work from a desk in our office for a day (or more) while they conduct an audit. Our relationship with both sides of the situation provides a great deal of value to those who find they must work through the process.
If you would like to speak to someone about an IRS Audit, please contact our office at 1-207-783-9111 or toll free at 1-800-605-9263 (from within Maine only).
